I've been dwelling WAY too much on abuse issues, and negativity in general, so I decided to start a (hopefully) weekly thing where I pick something (a movie, video, TV show, somic strip, whatever) that is very good (or very bad in a "so=bad-it's-good" way or "mock-it-till-it-hurts" way \:D ) and review it. More of a suggestion to divert yourself.

So, without further ado...(cue music fanfare!)...SCOT'S PICK O' THE WEEK!

Treasure Planet (available on Disney Home Video)

In a more just entertainment world, this movie would've gotten much better reviews and buy rates. I think the reason people didn't warm to it was it was so "un-Disney" like in format. No big music numbers, no deep romantic-fantasy overtones, not too many cutesy images. Too bad it was missed, because folks missed out on something VERY good.

This film has it all. Sterling stoey (loosely based on Stevenson's "Treasure Island"), cutting-edge melding of standard 2D-computer 3D images, great music (both in the soundtrack and songs by the Goo Goo Dolls' John Rzesznick (sp?)), and general great fantasy-SF feel akin to "Star Wars" (early '70s, people!). Yep, not Disney-like at all, which is what makes it so DAMN good!

Give it a spin in the old DVD player (or VCR). You'll be glad you did.

Peace and love,

Scot

Thank you Scot. Somehow I don't know that I have heard of that one, and I usually will see Disney movies (yes, childish, I know, whatever). I have nothing I need to do tonight, so I think I will take a trip to Blockbuster (haven't rented movies for months). Where is your newest 'pick'?

Excellent choice, Scot. This is one I meant to see but never got to until today, thanks to your reminder.

And now, without further ado, the lyrics to the two songs. They are remarkable "bookends" to Jim's journey, and they really speak to us, and to this place.

Quote:
I'm Still Here
- Jim's Theme, from Treasure Planet

I am a question to the world
Not an answer to be heard
Or a moment
That's held in your arms

And what do you think you'd ever say?
I won't listen anyway
You don't know me
And I'll never be what you want
Made of pain.

And what do you think you'd understand?
I'm a boy, No, I'm a man
You can take me,
And throw me away.

And how can you learn what's never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own
They don't know me,
'Cause I'm not here.

And I want a moment to be Real,
Want to touch things I don't feel
Want to hold on
And feel I belong

And how can the world want me to change?
They're the ones that stay the same.
They don't know me,
But I'm still here!

And you see the things they never see.
All you wanted, I could be.
Now you know me.
And I'm not afraid.

And I want to tell you who I am.
Can you help me be a man?
They can't break me,
As long as I know who I am.

They can't tell me who to be.
'Cause I'm not what they see.
Yeah the world is still sleeping,
While I keep on dreaming for me.

And their words are just whispers and lies
That I'll never believe.

And I want a moment to be Real
Want to touch things I don't feel
Want to hold on
And feel I belong

How can they say I never change?
They're the ones that stay the same.
I'M the one now,
'Cause I'm still here.

I'm the one son still here.
I'm still here
I'm still here
I couldn't catch the name of this one, but I'll call it "Where You Are".

Quote:
It's good to see the sun
And feel this place
This place I never thought
Would feel like home.

And I ran forever,
Far away,
And I always thought
I'd end up here alone.

Somehow the world has changed,
And I've come home.
To give you back
The things they took from you.

And I feel you now,
I'm not alone.
I always know
Where you are.

And when I see myself,
I always know
Where you are.

Where you are.

And I found something
that was always there.
Sometimes it's got to hurt
Before you feel.

But now I'm strong,
And I won't kneel.
Except to thank
Who's watching over me.

And somehow I feel so strong.
And I've begun to be the one.
I never thought I'd be.

And I feel you now,
I'm not alone.
I always know
Where you are.

And when I see myself,
I always know
Where you are.

Where you are.

Now, it's all so clear.
And I believe
That everything's
Been opened up to me.

And I feel you now,
I'm not alone.
I always know, I Always Know,
Where you are.

And when I see myself,
I always know,
Where you are.

And when I feel the sun,
I always know,
Where you are.

And when I see myself,
I always know,
Where you are.

Where you are.
