I too have thought about forming such a group. I'm sorry I'm not in your area--but I suppose we could meet via private jet somewhere in between Hammond,IN and Portland, OR. Did your other group have a therapist leader or responsible participant observer? The counselor that my wife and I are seeing has suggested a men's group for me. I don't know if it's primarily SA survivors, but I do know that you can't mention what you do for a living. Sounds restrictive but at least one wouldn't have to worry about that pissing contest. Good luck, keep us informed--and don't forget to mention your group formation in the chat room every once in while--I will, too.

If you start a men's support group in Portland, I'll make the drive over from Bend as often as I can. Portland does have an SIA group, as we also have one in Bend.

There are two leads over here for possible leaders of a men's group. I will be checking into that when I get back from Chicago next week--Wed., the 30th. Thanks for your interest.

I am from Crown point but now I live in FL. If you get a group started I would love to visit it when i visit my family. A supportive group sure would be a help at those visits.

I still haven't done anything about checking out situation here.
I will check it out through the 3 leads I have....therapists and an SIA Group, even though I'm primarily looking for a group for males only who have experienced CSA.

I'm starting to wonder if I am a survivor or just existing......and reading all these posts about the difficulty of finding a support group is only more discouraging. I am desperately seeking a support group for SA survivors in the Worcester, MA area. Therapists and counselors have been of little help. I feel the need to be heard by others who have experienced what I have. Can anyone help?

bec, I'm definitely interested in a support group. I need all of the help that I can get. However, I live in New York State.

What do you think of this? How would it be if all of us who are interested in a support group find a place to meet once per month and spend a weekend together. Possibly we could find a counselor to in whatever area we choose to facilitate the group. I'm game. I would love to meet all of you guys, give you support and get support. It would be something that i would always look forward to once per month. Thoughts?

Have you thought about forming a non profit, or not for profit organization, educating, and advertising things locally yourself? Your local chamber of commerce or whatever equivalent you have should be able to help with it. Sexual assault and abuse are far more common than most people even realize. If you can educate them locally, I'm sure that a group will form. I'm thinking about doing exactly that.
If we start doing that, we can gain in strenght and numbers to have our voices heard.

I'm hoping that this comes together for you. I'm about to try organizing a group here, in NW Oregon. I've heard that some guys have driven a couple of hours to be with their group, once per week, once every two weeks, whatever they have decided the frequency would be. I'll let you know if I discover any "tricks to the trade," so to speak, in finding others who would be interested.
One woman therapist advertised an 8 week mens group with subject matter and everything and no response. I don't know if it would have made any difference if the leader/therapist would have been male, but it was discouraging to know that it didn't fly in this area with over one million men.
Maybe we should engage Ken Singer in this endeavor, maybe he's got some ideas.

For those in Colorado...

There is a support group in Denver that assists with SA survivors. It's not dedicated solely to this, but that's one of its functions. They have a website: http://www.wheregraceabounds.org .

I am also interested in a men's group. But instead of focusuing on abuse suffered (I suffered emotional abuse by my dad, not sexual abuse of any kind by any one), I want to know are there groups where men as men with all the attributes we bring to the table can meet in the Milwaukee area. I'm not talking about PK or Christian men's groups, but men's groups focused on men from different orientations, backgrounds, and with the sole purpose of bring men together.

I too am in the midwest and desiring to start or at least find a group.

Bringing this to the top. I saw bec in chat tonight and I remembered this post... In all my years here it has always given me a sense of hope... He never gave up.

He had no idea how he has inspired me.
